In 1954 the Drimnagh Christmas Newsletter noted that a new GAA club had been formed in the area:
"The Good Counsel hurling team is making its presence felt in the under 16½ league. In the new year the under 15½ team will take to the field. Great things will be expected from both these teams and they intend to field a minor(under 18) team next year."
In 1960 the Drimnagh Road Leagues were the club's most successful way of recruiting new players. Indeed, they were so popular that almost every road in the parish was represented in the competition. They were run again several times over the following years with the 1977/78 leagues being particularly successful. They were ressurected in 2000 and proved once again that they are the best way of recruiting new talent into the club.
It is expected that over the coming years that we will be able to produce a healthy stock of juveniles to wear the 'Black and White' and guarantee our future in the new millennium.
This senior hurling team was a team in transition.
Several players who had starred in the 1960's had retired and they were replaced by the next crop of players. Many of these new players played well into the 1980's and beyond. Several members of the team had already played for their county. H. Dalton and M Allen being two of many 'Counsel' men who donned the blue of the 'Dubs'.
